  22.                           Tech Note #2 - Moving Links

  24. As you are undoubtedly aware, in Black Magic you are advised not to Cut, 
  25. Copy and Paste Links.  This is noted in the Supplement to the user Manual 
  26. for versions 1.3 and later.  This Tech Note will cover how to move links 
  27. without worry of damaging the file.

  29. There are two methods to move the positioning of Links on screen using 
  30. Un-UnMagic.

  38. How Can This Knowledge Be Used To Move Links? 
  40. For a Reference Link 
  41.  
  42. Reference links can be directly moved directly by executing the following 
  43. steps:  (Please read the steps before attempting to execute this process). 
  44.  
  45. 1.  Un-Magic the reference link you wish to move. 
  46. 2.  If you are moving the position of a link (i.e. to move a link from 
  47. thebottom of the page up to the top), then delete the text on the 
  48. bottom ofthepageandinsertthetextonthetopofthepage. 
  49. If you are switching the occurrence of a link (i.e. you linked the 
  50. wrongoccurrence of a word.  The word occurs at least twice and you 
  51. want toswitchthe link to the other occurrence), then there is no 
  52. need to modify textualinformation. 
  53. 3.  Mark the text intended to be the linked with the 
  54. <Shift><ArrowKeys>. 
  55. 4.  Create a Point-Mode Reference link. 
  56. 5.  Follow the steps to get to the Un-UnMagic queue. 
  57. 6.  Select your link (NOTE:  iF your link does not appear in the 
  58. Un-UnMagicqueue then it is pointed to by another link and it can be 
  59. found by lookingthrough the Map) by pressing <Enter> on the correct 
  60. link. 
  61. 7.  Mark an endpoint for the point-mode reference link you are creating
  62. andthen press the <ESC> key just as you do when creating other 
  63. point-modelinks.

  65. Your Reference link has now been moved and the window has been removed from 
  66. the Un-UnMagic Queue. 
  67.  
  68.          For All Other Link Types Except ReferenceLinks 
  69.  
  70. Inherently the method will be significantly different for other types of 
  71. links.  The method is based upon the idea of copying the text within the 
  72. link to the paste buffer.  Use the following steps: 
  74. 1.  Cut the text out of the link, then <Esc> back to the link originator. 
  75. 2.  UnMagic the link. 
  76. 3.  If you are moving the position of a link (i.e. to move a link from 
  77. thebottom of the page up to the top), then delete the text on the 
  78. bottom ofthepage and insert the text on the top of the page.If 
  79. you areswitchingtheoccurrenceofalink(i.e.youlinkedthe
  80. wrongoccurrence of a word.  The word occurs at least twice and you 
  81. want to switchthe link to the other occurrence).  There is no need 
  82. to modifytextualinformation. 
  83. 4.  Mark the text intended to be linked. 
  84. 5.  Create the link of the type it was before. 
  85. 6.  When asked for the text in that link, Paste the text back in by 
  86. pressing<F5>. 
  87. 7.  Press <ESC> key and the link will be created.

  89.  Un-Magicing a link reverses the process of creating the link.  The word or 
  90. phrase is stripped of the information that refers it to other information. 
  91. UnMagic is permanent on all link types except Reference links.  This is due 
  92. to the fact that other links can exist that point to that reference 
  93. information.  The referenced window is marked with the information that it 
  94. had been Un-Magiced but it and the information contained within it are kept 
  95. with the file. All the windows that have been Un-Magiced (and are not pointed to by any 
  96. other links) are kept on the Un-UnMagic queue.  The Un-UnMagic queue can be 
  97. found as the second function of the hypertext map. 
  98. The map can be reached either by <Ctrl> <F2> or using the menu system: 
  99. <F10> U M 
  100. where the U stands for 'Utility' and the M stands for 'Map.' 
  101. Then once the map has loaded (Note:  Loading the map is a necessity for 
  102. creating the Un-UnMagic queue) the Un-UnMagic queue can be reached by 
  103. pressing the <tab> key.
